Obituary of Norman G. Schmidt

Norman G. Schmidt, 71, of Carlinville, passed away Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Norman was born on December 21, 1944 to George and Alma (Sievers) Schmidt in Highland, IL. He graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1962 and continued his higher education at Eastern Illinois University where he received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Norman married Lois Schwane on December 17, 1966 in Manito, IL. Norman was an industrial arts teacher for VIT High School, Girard High School and Carlinville High School, where he taught from 1971 to 2000. He also worked part time in construction. Norman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville and served on the Carlinville Library Board for many years. He enjoyed yard work and spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's many events. Norman was also a big fan of Fighting Illini basketball. Norman is survived by his wife, Lois Schmidt of Carlinville; daughter, Becky (Jason) Lodes of St. Louis, MO; son, Mike (Lori) Schmidt of Carlinville; 4 grandchildren, Sydney, Bailey and Marley Schmidt and Jordyn Lodes; sisters, Carol (Paul) Prange of St. Louis, MO; brother, Eldon (Ann) Schmidt of Worden, IL, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Coatney and Doris Schmidt. Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville with Rev. Paul Prange officiating. Burial will take place in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church, Carlinville Public Schools Foundation or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
