Obituary of Velma Ilene Lockwood

Velma Ilene Lockwood, 93 of Girard, Illinois passed away Wednesday evening, January 4, 2023, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Velma was born August 22, 1929, in Moweaqua, Illinois, a daughter of William L. Shewmaker and Lena (Moss) Shewmaker Johnson. Velma graduated from Moweaqua High School with the class of 1946 and was the last member of her class living. She married Cedric W. "Sid" Lockwood on September 21, 1947 in Moweaqua, Illinois and he passed away, March 18, 2006. The Lockwood's relocated to Girard in 1959 and purchased the Whirl-Whip which they operated for five years. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, sisters, two infant children and daughter-in law, Nancy Lockwood. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home 226 North 3rd Street, Girard, Illinois. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Nathan Williams of Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden, Illinois. Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery, Girard. Velma is survived by her daughter, Sally (John) Noble of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, son, Les (Darla) Lockwood of Decatur, Illinois, son, Mike Lockwood of Girard, Illinois, grandchildren; Shelley Gray, Brian C. Lockwood (Jodi), Melanie K. Noble, Jeff Lockwood (Erin), Brad Lockwood, (Krystle), Justin J. Noble and 11 great grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the Girard Fire and Rescue in Velma's memory.
