Obituary of Edward LeRoy Smith

Edward LeRoy Smith, 84 of Girard, passed away Friday morning, November 23, 2018, at Heritage Health Care, Carlinville, IL. Edward was born September 5, 1934, in Springfield, IL, a son of Kenneth R. and Ruth (Farrar) Smith. He married Donna M. Pelham August 22, 1953, in Aiken, South Carolina. Edward joined the US Army at the age of 17, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He then worked as an Army Advisor to the National Guard and served in the Army for 20 years. Edward was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, as well as the American Legion and VFW in Lincoln, IL. He enjoyed reading, fishing and collecting. Edward was a great husband, father, and son. Edward was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at 10:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Girard, IL, with Rev. Tyler Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Edward is survived by his wife, Donna M. Smith of Girard, IL; daughter, Sandra (Ronnie) Hurst of Tallula IL; daughter, Sheryl (Billy) Drew of New Port Richey, FL; son, Edward (Christie) Smith, Jr. of Girard, IL; 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
