Obituary of Betty L. Rutherford

Betty L. Rutherford, 81, of Carlinville, passed away Friday morning, April 20, 2018 at Heritage Health Care in Carlinville, IL.


Betty was born on August 4, 1936 to Thomas and Viola (Greenwalt) Grimmitt in Carlinville, IL and was a graduate of Northwestern High School. She married Ralph Rutherford on May 20, 1972 in Decatur, IL and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2010. In later years, Betty became close friends with Len Gregory of Connecticut. She and Len enjoyed traveling together, making numerous trips out of the country together. Len preceded her in death in November 2017.


Betty worked in the banking industry for several local banks from 1963-2013, retiring in 2013 from CNB Bank and Trust in Carlinville. She was a past member of the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412, where she loved to spend time socializing with her fellow members and their guests. Betty was also known for her devotion to the University of Illinois and their athletic teams. She enjoyed working outdoors, doing yard work at her home, traveling, golfing, entertaining friends and family, and loved her pets.


Betty is survived by her son, Phillip Clark of Macomb, IL; step-daughter, Robin (Danny) Fones of Carlinville, IL; step-daughter, Gay Rutherford of Little Rock, AR; step-daughter-in-law Gean Rutherford of Austin, TX; and 2 step grandchildren.


Betty was preceded in death by husband, Ralph; companion, Len; step-son, Bruce Rutherford, and a brother, Eugene Grimmitt.


Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 24th at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, IL.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 25th at 10:00 am at the funeral home.


Betty and Ralph will be entomed at the Mausoleum of Valor in Mayfield Memroial Park Cemetery, Carlinville, IL.
