John Maurice Hays, 94 of Carlinville, formerly of rural Girard, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL.
Maurice was born October 12, 1922, in rural Girard, IL, a son of John A. and Helen (Williamson) Hays.
Maurice graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1940.
Maurice proudly served in the United States Army during W.W. II.
Maurice married Mary Jane (Warnick) in 1942 and she passed away in 1997. He later married Joyce (Tatman) February 5, 2003 in Texas.
Maurice retired from farming in 1986 where he worked on the same farm he was born on, as a grain and dairy farmer.
He was a member of Girard United Methodist Church, Virden American Legion, Carlinville VFW and the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412.
Maurice was a past member of the Girard School Board and past President and Trustee of the Girard Fire and Rescue Department where he served for 23 years. He loved to travel
and work in his garden.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Saturday,March 18, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham.
Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery, rural Girard.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Joyce of Carlinville, IL, son, Bryce (Linda) Hays of Palmyra, IL, daughter, Doris (David) Richeson of Palmyra, IL, son, Warren (Sherry) Hays of Girard, IL, son, Darrell (Kerttu) Hays of Finland, stepson Robert Scott Tatman of Springfield, Il, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Girard United Methodist Church, Girard Fire and Rescue Squad and ALS Association.
