Obituary of Lillian Irene Bates

Lillian Irene Bates, age 92 of Carlinville, Illinois passed away Sunday morning, October 30, 2016, at Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Carlinville, IL. Lillian was born March 11, 1924, in Lawrence County, IL, a daughter of Edwin and Estella Grace (Milligan) Schrader. Lillian graduated from Bridgeport High School with the class of 1942. She also graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Lillian married Wayne Johnson Bates on November 9, 1947 in Bridgeport, Illinois. She enjoyed raising her family, being a home economist and a farmwife. Lillian was a member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church, and past member of the 4-H, Home Extension and Methodist Women. She served as food judge for some area county fairs. Lillian was a wonderful cook, loved to play cards, especially bridge, was an avid quilter and blessed her family with many beautiful quilts. She loved to watch her children and later grandchildren in all their sports endeavors. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wayne Johnson Bates in 2010, daughter, Sandy Sue, brothers, Bob Schrader, Ed Schrader sister Thelma Akin and great grandson Parker Fenton. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 10:00am to Noon at the Carlinville United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at Noon. Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville. Lillian is survived by her sons, Gary W. Bates, Eddie B. (Karen) Bates and Frank A. (Sharon) Bates all of Carlinville, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers are; Stephen Fenton, Nick Kravanya, Marcus M. Davis, Thomas Gillespie, Eric England and Lloyd Schrader. Honorary pallbearers are great grandsons; Ryan Heffelfinger, Rowdy England and Grant Walker. Memorials may be made to the Carlinville United Methodist Church. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
