Obituary of Helen Lee Brown

Helen Lee Brown, age 100 of Virden, passed away Thursday evening, June 16, 2016, at Sunrise Manor in Virden, IL. Helen was born September 9, 1915, in Girard, IL, a daughter of John E. and Lula (Duke) Hodges. Helen was a graduate of Girard High School. She married Ernest Brown on July 24, 1933, in Girard, IL and he passed away in 1991. Helen worked in the school cafeteria in Girard, as well as the Girard Gazette. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Myra Adler Hodges; husband and a daughter, Mardell L. Hall. Helen is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Robb of Bradenton, FL; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Wanda Warrick of Quincy, IL; half sister, Carol Kissel of Springfield, IL and half brother, Jay E. Hodges of Georgia. Helen's husbands remains were brought back to Illinois from Florida after his death in 1991, and they will buried together in Girard Cemetery. A graveside service for both Helen and Ernest will be held Noon, Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Girard Cemetery with Rev. Marty Nagel. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Girard Library. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
