Sterling Edward Ersery, 84, of Taylorville, formerly of Girard, passed away Saturday morning, October 19, 2024, at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Taylorville, IL.
Sterling was born on October 11, 1940, to Raymond and Fern (Burkett) Ersery in Keyesport, IL. He married Doris (Fenton) Miller in the late 1960's, and they later divorced.
Ed graduated from Carlyle High School with the class of 1957 and afterwards enlisted in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged November 1, 1966. After serving in the military, he started working as a laborer at Allis-Chalmers in Springfield, Illinois. From there, he was employed at Valley Steel in Carlinville. He became a member of the Teamsters Union. Several years later Ed was employed at the R and R Book Bindery in Girard, where he later retired.
Ed loved fishing and listening to the old classic rock and roll, especially Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Ed liked making others smile, whether it being from his good cooking or from a good joke. He loved watching comedy shows and had an outgoing personality. Ed especially loved spoiling his children and grandchildren.
Ed is survived by three daughters, Deanna (James) Coleman of Kane, IL, Dana (Jim) Amos of Taylorville, IL and Debra (David) Neisler of Chatham, IL; son, Daniel (Ginny) Ersery of Hannibal, MO; 5 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. and Fern Ersery; twin granddaughters, Emmah and Ellah Guyer; sister, Raylene Hammond; brother, James H. Ersery; nephew, Jeff Hammond; great-niece, Tasha McCluskey.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
