Obituary of Jim Snelson, Sr.

James "Jim" D. Snelson, Sr., 77, of Raymond, IL, formerly of Marrero, LA, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. James was born November 21, 1946, in Hardin, IL, a son of Willard and Marie Beck Snelson. Jim was in the Army 101st Airborne Division and served in Vietnam, receiving several awards, including a Purple Heart. He married Norma Garrison, on December 1, 1969 in Macomb, IL. Jim was a self-employed trucker for over 35 years. He enjoyed camping with Norma and sitting around the campfire. They enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO. Jim especially enjoyed Christmas and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a proud military veteran. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Marie Snelson, and brother, William Snelson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, 9:00 - 11:00 am, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL, with Pastor Ron Butler presiding. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, Carlinville, IL. James is survived by his spouse, Norma Jean Snelson of Raymond, IL, daughter, Dorothy Lipscomb of Raymond, IL, daughter, Betty (Bobby) Hebert of Girard, IL, daughter, Brenda Whitehead of Farmersville, IL, daughter, Becky Weaver of AL, son, James D. Snelson, Jr. of Springfield, IL, daughter, Barbara Hernandez, sister, Bonnie (John) Ribardi of LA, brother, Jake (Mary) Snelson of LaHarp, IL, sister-in-law, Ruth Snelson of Morgan City, LA, 7 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, is in charge of arrangements.
