Lifelong resident Harold Edward Riemenschneider, 94 of Litchfield, IL passed away Friday evening, September 29, 2023, at his residence. Harold was born October 13, 1928, in Litchfield, IL, a son of Edward John and Irma (Hinz) Riemenschneider. He married Velma Neal on January 17, 1959 in Salem, IL. They were married for over 64 years. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Verlaine Mehlberg and Irma Jean Clesson, and granddaughter, Cassie Horrocks. Harold attended Litchfield schools and Zion Lutheran Church and school and was in the first class to be confirmed in the new church in 1943. Harold was a firefighter for the Litchfield Fire Department, Deputy Sheriff for the Litchfield Police Department and member of the National Sheriffs’ Association. He worked for Milnot Creamery in Litchfield, IL hauling milk from nearby farmers to the creamery. He met his future wife, Velma, while picking milk up from her family’s farm. He drove a cement truck for Curry ReadyMix Concrete and was a bus driver and custodian for the Litchfield School District until he retired 32 years ago. Harold and Velma became parents to their daughter Debra in 1959 while living in Litchfield where they raised her and together, they built a wonderful and loving home with many dear friendships over the next 64 years. Harold loved woodworking and making shelves, toy boxes, and things for his granddaughters. He started his day with his jelly donut, word searches, and solitaire, and never missed a Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune. He enjoyed going to church at the Christian Church of Litchfield with his wife where he was a member. Harold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many, and will be deeply missed by all of those that were fortunate enough to know him. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Christian Church of Litchfield, in Litchfield, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted immediately afterwards at 11:00 am with Pastors Tim Barbee and Steve Revisky. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Litchfield, IL. Harold is survived by his wife, Velma Riemenschneider, daughter, Debra (Wade) Horrocks of Litchfield, IL, granddaughter, Lacey (Stephen) Winter of Northbrook, IL, granddaughter, Lindsey (Michael) Stieren of Springfield, IL, grandson, Jason (Lynelle) Horrocks of Neosho, MO, granddaughter, Ashley (Brandon) Layton of Farmington, UT, grandson, Austin (Jacqueline) Horrocks of China Spring, TX, great-grandchildren; Jacob, Benjamin and Ava Winter, Leonard and Stella Stieren, Makayla, Brooklyn and Camrie Horrocks, Tatum and Oakley Layton, Paxton, Wesley and Kennedy Horrocks, brothers, Ray (Judy) Riemenschneider of Litchfield, IL, Robert (Carol) Riemenschneider of Litchfield, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
