Elvin E. "Peanut" Weller, 96, of Girard, passed away Thursday morning, August 18, 2022 at his residence in Girard, IL.
Elvin was born on November 29, 1925 to Elmer S. and Rose (Hoff) Weller in Palmyra, IL. On June 18, 1950 he married Ruth Darlene Boehler at St. Patrick's Church in Girard, IL.
Right after graduating from Girard High School with the class of 1944, Elvin enlisted the US Army, in the 99th infantry. He achieved the rank of Corporal and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, Remagen, and Ruhr Pockets. After returning home, Peanut managed the Girard Shell Station for several years. In 1951, he attended Bailey Technical School, and one year later started Weller TV and Appliances, which he and Darlene operated until 1997. Over the years, he acquired several rental properties and managed them as well. Peanut was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Girard chamber of Commerce. He also was a past board member of the State Bank of Girard and served as president for two years.
Elvin is survived by his wife Ruth Darlene; two daughters, Connie Weller of Springfield, IL, and Myona Thoron of Girard, IL; daughter-in-law, Linda Weller of Alpharetta, GA; grandson, Dustin (Michelle) Weller; three granddaughters, D'Lynn (Clint) Helton, Kayla (Catherine) Ryan, and Erika Thoron; four great-grandsons, Josh Weller, Alex Weller, Carter Helton, and Grant Helton; several nieces and nephews.
Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Rose Weller, and their son, E. Lynn Weller who passed on September 30, 2020.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard, IL, with Fr. James Palakudy officiating.
Burial will take place in the Girard Cemetery with full military rites being conducted by the Virden American Legion.
Memorials are suggested to the Girard Fire and Rescue.
Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard is in charge of arrangements.
