Obituary of Sandy Kay Berns

Sandy Kay Berns, 58, of Girard, passed away Friday afternoon, September 21, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Sandy was the third child born to Delbert and Verna (Steele) Kahl, Sr. in Springfield, IL. On May 25, 2007 she married Mark Berns in Carlinville, Illinois.

Sandy was a pizza maker at Casey's in Chatham. She loved gardening, going antiquing, and making trips to the casino's. Sandy loved spending time with her grandchildren and being called "Nana" .

Sandy is survived by her husband Mark of Girard; son, Jason (Jayne) Vance of Dawson, IL; daughter, Kayla Louise (fiancee, Stephen Gripp) Smith of Auburn, IL; parents, Delbert and Verna Kahl, Sr. of Girard; grandchildren, Jenna and Joseph Vance of Dawson, IL; four brothers, Samuel Kahl of Auburn, IL, Randy (Fran Clark) Kahl of Auburn, IL, Ralph Kahl of Girard, IL, and Delbert (Sherry Johnson) Kahl Jr. of Virden, IL; sister, Cindy (Tony, Sr.) Rose of Girard, IL; several nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by a brother, David Kahl.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL.

Burial will take place in the Girard Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
