Obituary of Sarah Willimay "May" Wadsworth-Barr

Sarah W. Barr (better known to many as May Wadsworth), 93, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, July 2, 2016 from Heritage Health Care in Carlinville, Illinois. Sarah Willimay Huddlestun was born to Thomas F. and Deetta (Wilmirth) Huddlestun on December 26, 1922, in Omph Ghent Township, Madison County, Illinois. She was a 1942 graduate of Shipman High School. Sarah married Milton E. Wadsworth of Plainview on April 22, 1944. She was mother of four children: Thomas M. Wadsworth (who only lived two days), Patrick Ernest, Judith May, and Carla Marie. Milton preceded her in death on August 2, 1982. Sarah married Rev. Clarence E. Barr, Sr. on October 1, 2000. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2012. Sarah was a homemaker for most of her life, but after Milton's death she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, and for several years she was caregiver to numerous homebound Carlinville residents, work which she dearly loved. She was a loyal and active member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church, where she and Milton raised their children, and later of the First Assembly of God Church of Carlinville, where she supervised the nursery for many years. She was a seamstress, an artist, and an avid flower gardener. Her family and friends also knew her as a person of deep religious faith, who believed strongly in the power of prayer. Sarah was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lola Holford and Mabel Steiner, both of Springfield, Illinois. Sarah is survived by three of her children; Rev. Patrick E. Wadsworth Sr. (Donna) of Lafayette, LA, Judith McLeese (Steve) of Palmyra, and Carla Eddington (George) of Shipman; stepchildren, Robert Barr (Linda) of Granite City, IL (deceased), Raymond Barr (Carol) of Highland, IL, Clarence Barr, Jr. (Suzanne) of Highland, IL, and Barbara Johnson (Donald) of Granite City, IL; two sisters, Betty Wadsworth (Ralph) of Carlinville, IL, and Patty Heyen (Bob) of Dorchester, IL; four grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Sarah will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Assembly of God Church located at 18772 Rt.4, Carlinville. Pastor Steve Schmidt will officiate. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Sarah will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Milton, in the Shipman Cemetery.
