Obituary of Richard "Dick" Mathias Kiel

Richard "Dick" Mathias Kiel, age 95, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday evening January 21, 2016 at his residence.
He was born August 17, 1920 in Meppen, Il, son of John "Pop" and Caroline (Droege) Kiel. Dick graduated from Brussels High School, Brussels Illlinois and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo with a degree in Engineering. He served in U.S. Navy during the W.W.II and reenlisted for the Korean Conflict.
After serving in the military he married Virginia (Kelley) September 11, 1954, in Altamont, IL and she passed away January 6, 2016.
Dick was an engineer with the State of Illinois Department of Transportation and retired after 30 years of service.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Brendan Chevalier, siblings Bernard and Catherine Kiel, nephew Tom Kiel.
Private family services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Carlinville, IL.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Mark) Mayer of Bethalto, IL, son, Michael (Karla) Kiel of Bluford, IL, daughter, Lisa (Rod) Chevalier of Carlinville, IL, son, Robert (Betty) Kiel of Bluford, IL, daughter, Terri (Darrell) Hayes of Taylorville, IL, son, Richard Kiel of Greenfield, IL, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nephews David and Jim Kiel, and sister-in-law Barbara Kiel.
Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
