Obituary of Hilda Hays

At the age of 101, Hilda Hays of Carlinville peacefully passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4th at her residence. Born January 24, 1914 at Willeys Station in Taylorville Township, Christian County, Illinois, the daughter of George Henry and Lela (Snodgrass) Peat. She was raised east of Palmer, Illinois and her family moved west of Girard in 1921. She attended Liberty School and graduated from Girard Township High School in 1932. She married Curtis M. Walden May 14, 1933, and they moved to Carlinville in 1940. They later divorced. She married Earl S. Hays on November 20, 1982 and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2005. Hilda was employed by the Illinois Secretary of State, Driver Services in Springfield from 1972 to 1979. She was a member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She became a member in 1941. She was an early member of the Girard High Alumni Association and regularly attended the annual banquets. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and watched almost every game. She appreciated birds and insisted that they be provided with bird seed during the winter months. Survivors include a daughter, Rosalind (Harold) Bloome and a son, Richard C. (Linda) Walden, both of Carlinville, stepdaughters, Judith A. Heitzig of Jerseyville and Lynda (Jim) Hotarek of Virden. In addition, Hilda leaves behind 7 grandchildren and many step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, a sister, Eileen Eskew of Girard, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Peat; a sister, Ruth Hendrickson; an infant sister, Ione; a daughter, Marilyn and her husband Roy Skeen; and a great-grandson, Boone Bomkamp. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Carlinville United Methodist Church, Carlinville, IL. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the Carlinville United Methodist Church, Carlinville, IL, with Revs. John Curtis and Robert Sabo, officiating. Burial will take place in the Morrisonville City Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Macoupin County School for the Developmentally Disabled, Carlinville Area Hospital - Trust Fund, or Carlinville United Methodist Church.
