Frank W. "Bill" Lake, 86 of Girard, passed away on Saturday evening, October 24, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Bill was born on October 10, 1929 to Aaron and Hazel (Snodgrass) Lake-Mallicoat in Virden, IL. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in March 1953. On September 5, 1953 Bill married June Reed at the Virden Christian Church, and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Bill started working as a horse trader in Atwater, IL. He then farmed in the Girard area, starting in 1968, as well as running the Lake Feed Store in Nilwood. Bill then became a livestock dealer, retiring in 2013. He was a member of Pleasant Dale Southern Baptist Church since 1968, serving as Trustee and bell ringer. Bill enjoyed sports, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal's fan and never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and favorite "furry friend" Snoopy.
Bill is survived by his wife, June Lake of Girard; daughter, Billie J. Lake of Shipman, IL; son, Jerry L. (Beth A.) Lake of Girard; daughter, Sue Lake of Benton, IL; son, William L. Lake of Girard; son, Mark W. (Melissa A.) Lake of Nilwood; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three sisters, Freida Lake of OK, Carolyn Behrens of Aurora, IL, Delores Neiswander of Rockford, IL and a brother, Charles Allen Lake of Brighton, IL.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Lake, Jr.; daughter, Peggy Ann Summers; sister, Ruby Jean Lyons and two brothers, Alfred Tilman and Wesley Eugene Lake.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home in Girard with Rev. Gerald McElroy officiating.
Burial will follow in Virden Cemetery.
