Obituary of Doris J. Walden

Doris J. Walden 86 of Girard, passed away Monday morning, October 20, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Doris was born on August 19, 1928 to Ernest D. and Pearl A. (Jackson) Slightom in Shaw's Point Township, rural Carlinville, IL. She was a 1945 graduate of Girard High School and on September 3, 1946 Doris married Sterling H. Walden. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2013. Doris was a Bookkeeper and Secretary for over 20 years for Carlinville Area Hospital, General Telephone Company, Girard Elevator and Old Republic Insurance Company. She was a member of Girard United Methodist Church, as well as the Virden American Legion Auxiliary. Doris is survived by two sons, Sterling Gary (Rhonda) Walden of Effingham, IL and Randy Keith (Kathy) Walden of Franklin, VA; daughter, Debra W. (Bill) Meyers of Chatham, IL; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a brother, Eugene (Glenda) Slightom of Atwater, IL. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Glenn Slightom. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Friday, October 24, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:00 am at the funeral home in Girard with Rev. Mary Alice Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery.
