Condolences
We were shocked as I am sure everyone else was to hear of the news of Marty's passing. As I thought about him I could not think of one negative time when Marty was around. He will be missed and our prayer is that he will now experience God's eternal love first hand in his heavenly homeland.
I fondly remember him as "Smarty"....what a kind, sweet man he was, always. I don't think we ever had an encounter that wasn't a mixture of laughter and good conversation; you simply enjoyed his company. Our sincere sympathies to all family and friends.
The class of 75 was, and still is, amazing and Marty was a big piece of that puzzle with his humor, his insights, his presence. Thanks to all of you who can be there to celebrate his life. Jim, we will miss you, such good memories of growing up in the Methodist Church and how we became good friends early on. Then we moved on to studying 8th grade Algebra and freshman Geometry. Study sessions at your house were about 20% studying and the rest about growing up with a friend, playing pool in the basement, checking out your brothers' gun case, reading Sgt. Rock comics, playing Battleship, Stratego, discussing our beer can and bottle collections. Before we graduated to albums, I remember when you bought the Beatles - 'Let it Be' on a 45. We wore it out. Also remember the time your mom was less than thrilled while cleaning the living room and a stray 22 rifle bullet went off in the vacuum cleaner. I remember tapes we made at your place for my car and your suggestion to make sure they never get too hot in the sun and they will last a long time - over 30 years! Sometime after Jane passed on you gave me a book called 'We Don't Die.' It made it into a box that traveled with me and somehow I only started reading it about 3 weeks ago and was planning on returning it to you soon. And, ironically, I youtube music quite often and last Sunday I played two songs you had suggested I tape from Chilliwack - Fly at Night and Something Better I played them Sunday morning and heard about your accident Sunday afternoon... hmmm? Coincidence? We don't die and you are more aware of that than we are. Thanks for our friendship. dg
Ah, what a loss. His unique outlook on life, his wild sense of humor and his compassion for others make this so hard. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
Our deepest sympathy, GOD be with you all and keep you comforted.
My sincere condolences and sympathy to Jim's dear family. I regret that I'm unable to make it to Carlinville today or tomorrow. Marty was a dear friend and I will deeply miss his laughter and great hugs. I'm keeping his family and all his great friends in my thoughts and prayers.
I am broken-hearted over the passing of my sweet cousin, Jim. He was always smiling, even during rough times. I know he is with his darling,Jane.
I will always remember you tenderly.
I always appereciated seeing Jim and Jane sitting to the right of me at church. I pray now they are sitting side by side together in heaven. May God grant them eternal peace that the world can neither give nor take away from them.
I knew him as "Jimmy". He was the Rogers' cousin closest to my age. We often played 'Roy Rogers & Dale Evans' together at family gatherings, (which were often); and the many times that I had to walk to the 'store' after to school to catch a ride home!
Our family has tragically lost Jacob Glenn, MariHelen Rogers, and now Jim, in the past eight weeks. To each and everyone of you who have posted such kind notes, "Bless You" and "Thank You So Much!" It is a comfort to all.
Was shocked to hear about the loss of Marty. As a friend who went to school with him and as a brother Lion member his smile and laugh will be missed greatly. God bless.
We were deeply saddened to hear of Marty's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many friends Marty had. With sincere sympathy--- Drew & Connie
Sorry to hear of Marty's passing. My thoughts are with Marty and his family. God speed my friend.
I am very sad to hear that Jim has passed away. I have many fond memories of him from the times that I have shared with the Marko family in Carlinville. Jim truly was a kind gentleman. He and Jane are now together again. My sympathy goes to all of Jim's family and friends who are mourning his loss.
Our sincere condolences and sympathy go to Jim's family. Jim was a great guy and is with our sister Jane now. Wish we could be there with you all. He is in our prayers.
The word has lost one of the good guys, one of the few true gentleman this place will ever know or wish they had known. May you rest in peace my friend and know our prayers are with you and all you knew.
You are in our thoughts and our prayers. Jim was truly a wonderful guy. He will be missed.
We are so very sad to see Marty has left us here...may his life beyond be unbelievable and eternal wonderous.
What a terrible loss for Jim's family and friends. We extend our sincere sympathies. Someone referred to him as a gentle giant, and that's exactly right. He was a special man, and will be missed. Jim & Nancy Schien
Unbelievable! God speed my funny friend, may the angels greet you as you enter paradise!

Condolences to the family. Very sorry for your loss.
Uncle Jim you were an amazing guy and even better uncle. You will be greatly missed.
Marty was one of my favorite people. Even though I didn't see him often, when I did he was still my old friend. I'll miss you Marty. Prayers for the family.
Our very sincere condolences for the loss of Jim. He was a very good friend to us, and Alan worked with Jim for many years. Whenever we caught up with each other, there was always great conversation. We will truly miss Jim.
Hearing of Jim's passing saddened us greatly! We have many fond memories of Jim but the fondest is of one early morning when he joined us at our home and cooked breakfast for us. He laughed at the idea that he had to bring his own pans to cook for us because we did not have any! Jim was always a fun loving guy with a smile to offer everyone he met, he will truly be missed! Our deepest sympathies to his loved ones...
To family and friends, my deepest sympathy and condolences. What a tremendous loss. I met Jim while at SIUE in mid-eighties. We formed an immediate bond/friendship. He was subsequently a groomsman in my wedding in 1987. Jim was a gentle giant with a kind heart that matched his phyical stature. A true friend to all who knew him. He had a certain panache or likeability like no one I've ever met. Even in heavy moments or conversations, his smooth, soothing voice and subtle smile kept the mood light, easy and jovial. Farewell and Godspeed Jim "Marty" Rogers.
I was so saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He was my travel partner for 2+ years when I first started at Karmak. He was professional, fun, full of life and a pleasure to work with. I have so many fun stories from our travels - it's hard to believe he won't be around to hear me tell them over and over. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends - we will truly miss him.
