Vern W. Rock
Born in Detroit, MI, June 1, 1925, departed this life at home in Girard Friday, March 11, 2011. He was educated in the Detroit schools and was led to the Lord at 12 years of age by a Christian layman in his home church. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1943 with service in the Pacific theatre. Returning to Purdue University he was enrolled for officer training when the war ended. It was while discussing the Gospel with a girl friend at Purdue that he was challenged to become a preacher and enrolled at Bob Jones University to study for the ministry. While there he met his future wife, Wanda Walden, and was further challenged to go where the need was the greatest and began preparations for overseas missionary service.
This led to an affiliation with an interdenominational mission organization, The Evangelical Alliance Mission and 29 years of service in Pakistan, and four in Trinidad.
In addition, the Rocks spent four years in York city and another six in Chicago in similar ministry.
Vern is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Wanda, two sons--Timothy of Springfield and Stephen of North Vernon, IN, a daughter. Rowena (Mrs. Robert) Vail of Auburn, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Information
