Nina L. Hatfill
99, of Girard, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Pleasant Hill Village.
She was born October 9, 1910 in Mulberry Grove, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer and Ida (Roach) Johnson. She married Harlie A. Hatfill February 18, 1928 and he preceded her in death November 29, 1977. Two brothers, Homer and Harlan Johnson, a grandson, Bill Anderson, and a son-in-law, Tom Richardson are also predeceased.
Mrs. Hatfill graduated from Greenville College and was a teacher for 31 years. She began her teaching career in a one room school house. She was a strong advocate of education. She had over 90 hours past her BA. During her career she taught 1st through 6th grade and at the secondary level taught English, social studies, science, math, business and library science at a variety of location in Illinois. Her commitment to education was passed on to her family. Of the 30 college eligible family members, there are 41 degrees. Nine family members are currently in college. She was rightfully proud of her entire family.
She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. Most recently she attended the First Christian Church of Girard.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Betty Richardson, Mrs. Donna Anderson both of Girard, and Mrs. Harriet (Dave) Reynolds of Iowa City, IA; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Information
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 10:00-11:00am followed by funeral services at 11:00 in the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard. Interment will be at the Mulberry Grove Cemetery. Donations Information
