Obituary of John F. Groves

John F. Groves Jr. 78, of Atwater passed away Thursday evening, June 5, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. John was born November 9, 1935 in Atwater, IL a son of John F. and Stella Konneker Groves. John married Jean Leitschuh on March 23, 1960 at St. Mary's Church in Litchfield. John was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles. John graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1953. John joined the Air National Guard in Springfield, IL and later enlisted and served his country in the United States Army. John farmed his entire life in Shaw Point and served on the Bank Board as Directors for Farmers-Merchant Bank for several years. John later became a trustee for Shaw Point Township as well as Bethel Ridge Cemetery. John was a member of the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412, Macoupin County Farm Bureau and the National Rifle Association. John enjoyed being outdoors especially hunting, boating and trapshooting. John also enjoyed bowling in his spare time. Surviving are his wife, Jean Groves of Atwater, IL; daughter, Catherine (Jeff) Bolomey of Carlinville; son, Kevin (Beth) Groves of Atwater; sisters, Nancy (Myron) Glenn of Carlinville and Mary Ruth (Pat) McGow of Plymouth, MI; grandsons, Dane Killam of Yorkville, Jay Killam, Matthew, Mitchell, and Michael Bolomey all of Carlinville, Aidan Groves of Atwater; granddaughter, Allison Groves of Chicago; great-granddaughters, Allie Killam and Zoey Killam, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Information Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville with an Elks ritual at 3:00pm. Funeral Services will follow at 3:15 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the funeral home with Reverend John Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Ridge Cemetery.
