Obituary of Cattie Grooms

Cattie Grooms 95, of Girard, passed away Monday morning, September 5, 2011 at Sunrise Manor in Virden. Cattie was a twin, born on Saturday, April 29, 1916 in Horntown, KY, the daughter of Marshall and Pina (Williams) Watkins. She was united in marriage to Harvey Lutz and he passed away August 1959. Cattie later married Virgil Grooms and shared 20 years together until his death. Cattie was a homemaker and had been employed with Advance Glove Factory in Carlinville as a seamstress for several years. Cattie had been very active in her church,the First Baptist Church of Girard and held the honor of being the oldest member. When her children were younger she would love to play baseball, board games and fish with them. You could also catch her singing from time to time. Survivors: son, Robert Lee Watkins of Girard, IL, son, John M. Lutz (Mary Lou) of Girard, IL, daughter, Mattie Nance of Lovelock, NV, daughter, Florence Miller of Girard, IL, daughter, Ruby Baker (Larry) of Hettick, IL, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandchildren Kenny Lutz; Gabreal Baker; and Willie W. Baker; great granddaughter Charlene Blackman; brothers; Tony; Stanley; and John Watkins; twin sister Mattie Mitchell and sisters; Delta Weaver and Francis Conners. Funeral Information Graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 9, 2011 at Girard Cemetery with Rev. Victor Angulo officiating.
