Obituary of Steven Gripp

Steven "Sonny" Gripp Steven "Sonny" Gripp, 99, of Girard, passed away Monday morning, April 18, 2011 at Sunrise Manor in Virden. Sonny was born Monday, December 25, 1911 in Girard, the son of Mike and Anna (Vargo) Gripp. Sonny married Mary A. Gavura at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard on August 17, 1945. Sonny was employed by the Chicago North Western Railroad, retiring in 1973. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Girard and the Carlinville V.F.W. Post. Sonny was overseas for 34 months during WWII and was involved in 4 major battles including the D-Day invasion. Sonny also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Survivors: Three sons, Stephen Gripp (Lisa) of Girard, Joseph Gripp (Debra) of Girard and Andrew Gripp (Deborah) of Virden; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, three sisters and four brothers. Funeral Information Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 20 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home with Father Christopher House officiating. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery.
