Obituary of Wayne Gravelle

Wayne Gravelle 78, of Girard, passed away on Sunday evening, October 23, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on June 23, 1933 in Orland, CA, the son of Sherman Charles and Clara Inanda (Eelesson) Gravelle. Wayne married Maggie Fitzgerald on March 29, 1974 in Las Vegas NV. Wayne graduated from Orland High School, class of 1951. He then received his associates degree in accounting at Chico State, CA. Wayne was in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sgt. Wayne worked as an accountant for the State of Illinois for 15 years. Prior to his accounting career, Wayne worked as an insurance broker. Wayne loved to swim and watch football, especially his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football for Chico State in Redding, CA. Wayne is survived by his wife, Maggie; son, Orvie Eugene Gunn (Companion Jill Schoth) of Girard; daughter Shelly Talkington (Mike) of Girard; 4 grandsons, Christopher Wayne Gunn (Jodi Ann), Chad Allen Gunn (Companion Ashley Miller), Jared Gunn, Nicholas Gunn; granddaughter, Melissa Miller (Jeremy); 4 great grandchildren and one nephew, Garrett Gravelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery.
