Obituary of Robert M. Evans

Robert M. Evans 84, of Carlinville, passed away on May 21, 2012 at his residence. He was born on February 13, 1928 to Morgan and Lula (Understahl) Evans in Fillmore, Illinois. He graduated from Fillmore High School with the class of 1945. Bob enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in high school, and later he coached his sons summer baseball teams. He married Maxine M. Toberman on November 11, 1951 in Hillsboro, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2011. Bob started his career with GTE as a lineman and retired in 1984 as a field engineer, after more than 40 years, and then worked at the Carlinville Public Library, where Maxine worked. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville. After his retirement, he and Maxine traveled all over the country when they weren't spending happy hours with their grandchildren. Bob was one of the best mushroom hunters and was known as always having a positive attitude. Robert is survived by his daughter - Sue Elk (husband, Jack) of Bartlett, Illinois; 2 sons - Ken Evans and Dave Evans (wife, Susan), both of Carlinville; 4 Grandchildren - Hannah, Joe, Reid, and Sophie Evans; brother - James "Tip" Evans of Humboldt, IL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; father and mother, Morgan and Lula Evans; 4 brothers - Kenneth, Arthur, Paul, and Morgan Evans; 2 sisters - Ruth Kirkman and Annie Mutka. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, 10:00 am at the Zion Lutheran Church, Carlinville, IL, with Rev. Peter Kirby, officiating. The organist will be Eldon Wold.
