Condolences
Bill, It is so sad to learn of Bob's passing. You were both such a part of everyone's memories. How well I remember sitting at the counter and having ice cream sundaes every day one summer, trying to gain weight. After the war, when Freddie came home and felt restless at night he told Mom not to worry he would be up at Deck's. Bob was involved in all of the community and gave his time and effort freely. I worked at the library for Mrs. Weddle in summer, before the new building. My memorial to Bob will go there. You have my sympathy at this loss.
Bill, Bob will long be remembered for all of the wonderful, thoughtful, and kind actions he pursued for the benefit of the entire community. He will be greatly missed.
Bill, I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Bob as a very kind, generous and accommodating person who cared very much about the Girard community and the many people he served. My parents and I always enjoyed Deck's Drugstore and the friendliness and kindness shown by both you and Bob when doing business, or just having a friendly chat when meeting. Bob will be greatly missed by many.
Bill, Very saddened to learn of Bob's passing. You and Bob and the drug store will always be a part of my memories of Girard. May God bless.
We are so saddened to learn of Bob's passing. He was such a nice gentleman who was always cheerful and willing to lend a helping hand. In addition to being a great community leader in Girard, he was very helpful to those of us in the New Berlin Area Historical Society. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Bill, Our Hearts are so heavy with sadness at Bob's Passing, and at the same time joyful that we were given this blessing to have known both of you. You Are BOTH LOVED by So Many.. We are always here to help, just call.
To the Deck Family: Bob was a well loved and respected man in Girard..He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. My sympathy to his family and friends.
Bob Deck represented all that is good about living in a small American town like Girard: helping your neighor when ever possible, giving back to the community in small and large ways. guiding community services. If only we could all live up to his example. Also, like many veterans, he saw his service as an honor and privilege and it wasn't necessary to wear his heart on his sleeve.
So sorry to hear about Bob's death. Bob was such a great leader in the Girard church when I worked with the church as associate regional minister. Always kind and thoughtful, he only wanted the best for everyone. I still have a Chrismon "crown" he made for me and have many good memories of being in his presence at assemblies, in worship, around the table. May he rest in peace.
Bill, looks like Bob beat us to heaven. We selfishly, thought, weren't ready to let him go so soon. We know Bob leaves a big hole in lots of people's hearts. His kindness and dedication to investing in the lives of others will long live on. We are grateful God allowed us to know this wonderful man. We are praying for comfort for you and all the others who are stunned and grieved by this big loss.
My Grandfather was pastor at the baptist Church in Girard when he passed in 1941. My Mother grew up in Girard, and spoke of "the Deck boys" often. She was Alicemae Ishmael, and her father was Rev.James Ishmael. I still have Moms autograph book, with "the Deck boys" writings. My thoughts and prayers are with their loved ones as we all say our Good-bys to a wonderful man. Charlene
Certainly a memorable part of my growing up years in small town, mid-west Illinois is Deck's Drug Store in Girard. Bob gave a lot to that community, and I was sorry to read of his death. My sympathy to you, Bill. Also a rich memory of Girard is the library, and since Bob was on the board, I shall send a donation to the library in his memory.
Bill I am sorry for your loss Bob was a valued mimber of the Girard community. He will be miised by all who knew him.
Bill, Ken & I are so sorry for your loss! You are in our prayers! Bob's passing is a loss to all of us who call Girard home! It has been so nice being Bob's neighbor for 16 years & keeping up with the community activities from across the street & in the yard. We will miss seeing him out there, so much! He was such a good man, & a good friend to me. He was a mentor to me in my early days of being a nurse & calling refills of medicines into the pharmacy for patients. He answered so many of my questions & never caused me to feel like I was a bother. He was always friendly, helpful & kind, with his deep voice & hearty laugh! He will be missed!
My daughter, Stephanie, remembers Bob for three cent bubble gum, vanilla cokes, and laughter. I remember his beautiful voice in the choir, and how I always felt closer to God when he shared his talent. I also remember his willingness to make middle of the night drug store runs for medicine for the girls and helping to put together a Barbie House on Christmas Eve, and many more memories than space allows. He was Bob - giving, laughing, singing, loving God and those around him - a true friend. Bill, know that my prayers for you are for peace and comfort.
