Obituary of Verna J. Alford

Verna J. Alford 93, of Girard passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born November 13, 1920, in Carlinville, IL, the daughter of Elmer Kessinger and Ima (Bown) Kessinger. She married Robert E. Alford, in Girard, IL on April 8, 1945 and he passed away December 17, 1973. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Pauline Schwab and brothers, Hayden and Raymond Kessinger. Verna graduated from Girard High School, class of 1938. She was a homemaker, and active in the First Christian Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing bridge and spending time with friends. Survivors include: son, Joseph Alford of Girard, and daughter, Mary (Harry) Fanning of Girard. Granddaughter, Jacqueline (Charles "Ed") Redmond of St. Louis, MO, and grandson, Robert (Janelle) Fanning of Girard. Two great granddaughters, Eleanor and Findlay Fay Redmond. Funeral Information Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Girard. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the church, with Rev. Richard Whitworth officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Donations Information Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Food Pantry.
