Obituary of David L. Poe

David L. Poe, 80 of Carlinville, passed away Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2026, surrounded by family at his home in Carlinville, IL. David was born February 17, 1946, in Charleston, WV, a son of Carl A. Poe and Elphie (Vickers) Poe. He graduated from Duval High School in Griffithsville, WV, with the class of 1964. David married Dinah Adams at Beach Grove Baptist Church in Yawkey, West Virginia on October 1, 1965. They shared 60 loving years together. David was a supervisor and foreman for the prep plant at Wayne Mine in West Virginia and Monterey Coal Mine in Carlinville for over 30 years, before he retired in 2005. David loved cars of all kinds, but one of his favorites was the 1948 Willys Jeep that was gifted to him from his father, Carl. He enjoyed many outdoor hobbies, including gardening, yard work, and mowing his lawn. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville, IL. David also served in the West Virginia National Guard. David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Elphie Poe, twin granddaughters, Alyssa and Joelle Poe, and brothers, James and Ted Poe. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026, at Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, IL, from 5 to 7 pm. Funeral Services will be conducted at Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, July 3rd, 2026, at 10 am. Burial will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville, IL. David is survived by his wife, Dinah Lynn Poe of Carlinville, IL, son, D. Craig (Shawna) Poe of Carlinville, IL, son, Jonathan (Kimberly Engel) Poe of River Ridge, LA, granddaughter, Ainsley (Garet) Gwillim, grandson, Alexander "Zander" Poe, and granddaughter, Natalie Poe, great-granddaughters, Anna and Thalia Gwillim, and sister-in-law, Conna Poe. Memorials may be made to either Emmanuel Baptist Church or the Carlinville Food Pantry. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
