Larry was an amazing grandfather. Knowing the time we got to spend with him the last 18 years has been a blessing. He took Hunter to Hardee’s all the time in the mornings to hang out with his buddies, he would pick up Hunter from school and keep him while I worked until myself or Vy were off. Hunter adored his grandfather. He was the only grandfather present in his life for the last 18 years that actually spent time and wanted to spend time with Hunter. Recently I got to sit with him while we were in the hospital waiting for results. I stayed the night with him and got to hold his hand. We talked about life growing up, life with his kids, his loss of his son, regrets, and the other family he didn’t get to see. It broke his heart. He was a Vietnam vet who had PTSD and night terrors and I can never imagine what he had to endure and come back to lead a “normal” life. He was tough and stern but loved to laugh. I loved learning about recycling with him and why he cared so much for “scrap.” We would often find him digging metal out of the trash just to keep it from making it to the landfill. He didn’t do it for the money, he did it because he cared in his own special way. I last saw Larry a few weeks ago where we got to spend a few hours at his side. He told Hunter he loved him, he told me thank you and we told him the same. If you ever got to meet his real side, then you knew he was a good man. We love you Larry Barry forever. Go have that Dr Pepper with Vy and walk those flower fields of heaven that you don’t have to tend. Love you always!
