Obituary of Thomas "Mike" Barnard

Thomas "Mike" Barnard, IV, 77 of Girard, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Lakeside Health Care in Carlinville, IL. Mike was born August 12, 1948, in Christopher, IL, a son of Thomas and Betty Faye (Weaver) Barnard. He graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1966. He married Sandra Hazelwood on March 17, 1978, in Springfield, IL. They just celebrated 48 years of marriage. Mike graduated from Springfield Catholic College with an associates degree in music in 1968, using his musical talents for years to come. He worked as a librarian and adjunct music faculty for LLCC for thirty-six years, retiring in 2005. Mike had been a Minister of Music for a combined forty-eight years for First Baptist Church of Springfield as well as Sugar Creek Methodist Church in Chatham. He gave private piano lessons and ran Barnard Music Studio from 1974 until April of 2026. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville, IL, Federation of Music Clubs where he served as president for twenty-two years, a board member of the Macoupin County Public Health Dept., and the Girard Township Library Board. Mike also enjoyed directing and performing in many shows at the Illinois State Fair, the Girard Festival Days, Madrigals and other local venues. He traveled with The Singing Churchmen for performances and mission work, and led the worship for many revivals throughout the years. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cathy Guidish, and a nephew. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery, Girard, IL. Thomas "Mike" Barnard is survived by his wife, Sandra Barnard of Girard, IL; son, Thomas Michael (Britni) Barnard of Endicott, NY; daughter, Diana (Anthony) Barnard Hatley of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren, Nadia Barnard, Caleb Barnard, Rebekkah Kodl, Nicholas Hatley, Eleanor Hatley, Julia Hatley, Rylee Barnard, and Hannah Barnard; brother, James Barnard of Gerald, MO; brother-in-law George (Cathy) Guidish of Gulfport, MS; and 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
