Obituary of Robert "Bob" Orville Emery

Robert "Bob" Orville Emery, 82 of Carlinville, IL passed away Friday afternoon, February 20, 2026, at his home in Carlinville, IL, while surrounded by his family. Robert was born May 27, 1943, in Litchfield, IL, a son of Orville "Doc" Emery and Dorothy (Bouillon) Emery. After his mother's death, Robert was raised by Doc and Imogene (Eichen) Emery from the age of 1 year old. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the Class of 1961 and shortly after graduation; Robert served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1963 as an infantry man in the 5th Army Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. He then married Sharlyne Helfer on February 13, 1965, in Carlinville, IL. They enjoyed a long loving 61 year marriage and had two children, Charles Scott, and Tammy. Robert was a farmer and worked numerous jobs including carpentry, which he enjoyed. He served with several community organizations and was an Area Governor for Toastmasters International, also served as a Past Commander of Guy Baird American Legion Post 554 in Carlinville. Robert was a long-time member of the American Legion. Robert helped to establish the Macoupin County Agricultural Antique Association. He loved his tractors. He was also a member of the Central States Archeological Society. Robert collected numerous things including Indian artifacts, antique tools, well pumps, tractors, and antique vehicles. Robert was preceded in death by his father, both mothers, brothers, Charles Emery, Kenneth Emery, and David Emery; along with well-loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, 260 Woodlawn Drive Carlinville, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am, Friday, February 27, 2026 at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Cliff Woodman. Burial will follow in Bethel Ridge Cemetery, Atwater, IL. Robert is survived by his wife Sharlyne, brother Fred Emery, sister Frances Ann Emery, children Charles Scott (Tammy) Emery and Tammy (Donnie) Bolino, grandchildren Josh (Lacey) Manning, Nic (Bre) Emery, and Donnie Bolino Jr., great grandchildren Hux and Noa Manning. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Davis-Anderson Funeral Homes, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
