Obituary of Wendell Dale Sutton

Wendell Dale Sutton, 81 of Girard, IL, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden, IL. Wendell was born June 2, 1944, in Springfield, IL, a son of Earl E. and Mary I. (Fox) Sutton. Wendell graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1962. He married Joan Schott Snedigar on August 8, 1992, in Farmersville, IL. Wendell achieved the rank of Master Sgt in the US Air Force, serving as a Wideband Communications Equipment Technician. He was a decorated service member with over 20 years of service. Almost 15 of these years were spent overseas on mountain tops in Italy. After retiring from the Air Force, Wendell worked at the hardware stores in Girard and Virden where he was known as the helpful hardware man. He loved to garden and maintain his lawn. He especially loved his wife, Joan. Wendell attended Zion Lutheran Church ELCA in Farmersville, IL. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Virgil and Wayne Sutton, sister, Violet Sutton, step-sister, Hilda Bettis, step-brothers, Glenn Miller & Stanley Miller, step-sister, Linda Lopez, step-mothers, Evelyn (Miller) Sutton, and step-mother, Louise (Wright) Sutton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 11, 2026 from 9:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. Zion Lutheran Church ELCA in Farmersville, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted February 11, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery, Girard, IL. Wendell is survived by his spouse, Joan Snedigar-Sutton of Girard, IL, step-son, Darrell Snedigar of Machesney Park, IL, step-son, Don Snedigar of Dallas, TX, grandchildren, Christopher and Samantha Snedigar, brother, Henry (Karen) Sutton of Girard, IL, step-brother, Jake (Barb) Miller of GA, step-sister, Mary (Keith) Carter of Vandalia, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue or Zion Lutheran Church ELCA Farmersville, IL. Davis-Anderson Funeral Homes, Girard, is in charge of arrangements.
