Obituary of Lucille Carolyn Mahkovtz-Ramsey

Lucille Carolyn Ramsey, 95, passed peacefully at Carlinville Area Hospital on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 1, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to George and Marguerite Buche.
A gifted and creative spirit, Lucille was an avid reader and talented artist, with a special love for ceramics and painting. She delighted in creating meaningful gifts to share with her family, leaving behind treasured pieces of her heart and talent.
Lucille attended Blackburn College, McKendree University, and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where she earned her master's degree in Education. She devoted her career to teaching first grade in Carlinville, Centralia, and Mt. Vernon, Illinois, before finishing her teaching years in Glendale, Arizona. She loved her time in the classroom and took pride in shaping the lives of her students, many of whom carried her influence well beyond their school years.
In January 1949, Lucille married James Mahkovtz in Carlinville, Illinois. They shared many years together before his passing in October 1976. Together, they raised four children. On February 17, 1985, she married David Ramsey, with whom she shared more than three decades until his passing in August 2018.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jim Mahkovtz; her second husband, David Ramsey; her sister, Carol McCarthy; her brother, George Buche; her son, Martin Mahkovtz; her son-in-law, Steve Pearson; and her great- grandson, Zeke Mahkovtz.
She is survived by her children: Jim (Linda) Mahkovtz of Sesser, IL; Karen Pearson of San Diego, CA; and Tom (Beth) Mahkovtz of Carlinville, IL. She is also lovingly remembered by her stepchildren: David Ramsey, Robert Ramsey, John Ramsey, and Jim Ramsey. Lucille's legacy continues through her seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and the many lives she touched with her love, kindness, and wisdom.
Lucille's greatest joy was her family. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love for them was boundless.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville, IL.
Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville.
