Obituary of Doris Ruth Bender

Doris R. Bender, 94, of Auburn, IL, passed away on Saturday morning, August 23, 2025, at her home in Auburn, IL. Doris was born February 16, 1931, in Springfield, IL, a daughter of Oscar and Clara Harfford. Doris graduated from Springfield High School with the class of 1948. She married Richard L. Bender Sr. on March 12, 1951 in Arkansas. He later passed on March 13, 1983. Doris was a woman of many talents having several jobs over the years but her greatest joy and passion was being a home maker. She enjoyed crochet, cooking and shopping. She also enjoyed gambling, with both cards and odds, she rarely lost. Doris most of all loved to spend her time with family and dog Carl. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Johnette Jaye Gilmore, three sisters and one brother. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, 11:00 to 1:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, IL. Doris is survived by her son, Richard L. (Donna) Bender, Jr. of Auburn, IL, grandson, Jason (Jessica) Gilmore of Virden, IL, grandson, Josh (Bobby Jo) Gilmore of Virden, IL, granddaughter, Jessica (Matt Bishop) Bender of Springfield, IL, granddaughter, Kristin Bender of Springfield, IL, 12 great grandchildren, brother, Richard (Mary) Harfford of Mattoon, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews.
