Obituary of Doris A. Spoon

Doris A Spoon, 95 of Carlinville, went to meet her Lord, Monday evening, August 10, 2020, at Hallmark Health Care in Carlinville, IL. Doris was born May 27, 1925, in Greenfield, IL, one of four daughters and 3 sons born to Ora Elmer and Daisy Clark Dawson. She married Robert S. Spoon, September 25, 1943 in Carlinville, IL and he passed away November 24, 1997. Doris' work career was spent entirely with the Bremer's. She will be mostly remembered as a sales clerk at the 5 and 10 store on the Carlinville Square for over 44 years. After the store closed Doris embarked on a new career as their sales clerk in their new Office store. She worked there until 1990. Doris finished her working career at the Macoupin County Health Department where she worked for 9 years, well into her 80's. She retired to enjoy spending time at her church and with friends. Doris was the oldest living member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville. She enjoyed baking and giving her goods away and helping people when ever she could. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband son, Jerry Spoon in 1974 and sister, Betty Qualls. Graveside service will be held at 9:30 am, Friday,August 14, 2020 at Bethel Ridge Cemetery, rural Atwater, Illinois. Burial will follow in Bethel Ridge Cemetery, Carlinville. Doris is survived by her son, Robert L. (Michelle) Spoon of Niangua, MO, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren.
