Obituary of Glenda Ann Slightom

Glenda Ann Slightom, 91 of Atwater passed away Saturday morning, May 30, 2020, at Pleasant Dale Place in rural Girard, IL Glenda was born October 15, 1928, in Atwater, IL, a daughter of Glen A. and Sophronia (Boston) Klaus. Glenda attended the Waggoner Schools in her youth. She married Eugene J. "Gene" Slightom November 28, 1946 at the Carlinville United Methodist Church and he passed away February 2018. Glenda was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church and had lately been attending Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in rural Girard. Glenda was a true farm wife. She worked in the fields, took care of livestock, ran a grain truck and still had supper on the table when everyone came in. She and Gene loved to square dance and made many, many friends during their several years of dancing. Sports really weren’t her thing but she spent many an evening watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play all kinds of ball. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Beverly VanDyke. There will no public visitation due to the COVID-19 virus. Private Family Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020 Burial will follow in Bethel Ridge Cemetery, Carlinville. Glenda is survived by her son, Carl (Sheryl) Slightom of Atwater, IL, son, Roger Slightom of Waggoner, IL, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sisters, Velma Kumpf of St. Louis, MO, Mary Herschelman of Raymond, IL, and Jean Germann of Mt.Vernon, IL and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Bethel Ridge Cemetery or Girard Methodist Women.
