William Paul "Bill" Sonneborn, 84, of Hettick, passed away Sunday evening, August 28, 2016 at his residence in Hettick, IL. Bill was born on February 27, 1932 to Melvin and Sadie Grace (Armstrong) Sonneborn at their home in Hettick. He attended Hettick schools and graduated from Northwestern High School. Bill served in the United States Army as a Sgt. during the Korean War. On April 11, 1952 he married Donna Joleen Tate in Hettick. Bill and Donna recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Bill's father, Melvin, started trucking in 1928, and in 1959 Bill and his brother Jim started Sonneborn Brothers Trucking at the present sight in Hettick. Bill worked for Allis-Chalmers from 1952 until 1967. He was a member of Midwest Truck Association - central advisory board, South Palmyra Rural Water, Northwestern Rescue Squad board, Village of Hettick Town Board, Palmyra and Carlinville American Legion. Bill loved restoring trucks and cars (1957's), and was very proud of his 1947 truck. He was also a member of the Lincoln Chapter of A.T.H.S. and the Hettick Community Club. Bill is survived by his wife, Donna Sonneborn of Hettick; two daughters, Tammy (Ron) Dugan and Janna (Larry) Tetzlaff of Hettick, IL; two granddaughters, Courtney (Gary) Dugger and Kelsey Starkey; two grandsons, Mike (Beth) Dugan and Jeff Dugan; great-grandson, Jacob Reese; great-granddaughter, Makenah Dugan; sister, Dianna (Tom) Drake of Carlinville, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 3 sisters and a son-in-law, Randy Starkey. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at Cross Church in Carlinville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 10:00 am at Cross Church with Revs. Gary Harding and Thurman Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Hettick Cemetery with military rites provided by the Guy Baird American Legion Post #554. Memorials are suggested to Hettick Cemetery, Relay for Life, Macoupin County T.A.I.L.S. or the Lincoln Chapter of A.T.H.S. Online condolences can be given at www.davisandersonfuneralhome.com.
